On Sunday history was made at the university of Nairobi when Ann Mwangi Mvurya was announced as the winner in the recently concluded UNSA elections, Mvurya becomes the first female chairperson to lead UNSA formerly SONU, since its inception 50 years ago.
Mvurya a third year law student at the university, is set to replace Mr. Antony Manyara who has been the chairperson of UNSA since last year.
Mvurya garnered 24 votes against his closest competitor Samuel Ayoma who got 8 while Ertiman Oile got 4 votes. The total number of votes cast was 36, the number of the delegates who participated in the process.
The polls were held on Friday, presided over by prof Mohammed Jamaa through electoral college and the results released on Sunday. This marks the second election held under the new university act which was signed into law in 2016 by president Uhuru Kenyatta.
