As if fans weren’t already eagerly anticipating the release of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther next month, they now have the album for the feature film to look forward to as well.
Grammy Award-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar is set to produce Black Panther: The Album with Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith that will feature music from and inspired by the film, which follows King T’Challa (aka The Black Panther) and his journey to protect his nation of Wakanda from enemies and prevent a possible world war.
Lamar and Tiffith will work with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler in creating music for the film, which marks Lamar’s first major motion picture involvement and the first time Marvel Studios will create multiple original recordings specifically for a film.
Coogler, who previously directed the spinoff-sequel to the Rocky films, Creed, hand-picked Lamar for the job. “I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film,” he said of the rapper.
Lamar added, “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.”
The lead single from the album titled “All the Stars” by Lamar and R&B singer SZA was released earlier Thursday (listen below).
