After a week of heated campaigns, university of Nairobi students will today be going to the ballot to elect the next leaders of UNSA. The team which will comprise of seven members; the chairperson, the vice chair, ( who shall be of the opposite gender with the chairperson) secretary general, treasurer and three other members to represent special interests of students will act as a link between the students and the administration, with their main role being presenting the students grievances to the administration.

The campaign exercise was however marked with malpractice forcing the administration to disqualify some of the contestants. among the disqualified candidates include the outgoing UNSA chair and his team Antony Manyara who was disqualified on the grounds of forging the deans signature,which is a breach of the constitution. Another disqualified candidate is Laurent Mboya Kabila and his team TEAM MBOYA who were contesting for the Chiromo campus seats, their disqualification was initiated by a rival team TEAM OKUTA who launched a complaint on March 29th with claims that the team acted contrary to the electoral code of conduct in the conversion of the constitution of Kenya 2010, the university act and regulation made. As the chairman of the team it is also said that Mboya planned for the fall of team Okuta by keeping Okuta’s papers which is an offence according to the UNSA Constitution 2019. Others who failed to get clearance include Owiti Owayao and Wakili cosmas.
MANYARA’S TEAM DENIED CLEARANCE
Eyes are focusing on the main campus where Samuel Ayoma, Ann Mvurya, and Maina Mwaura will be battling it out on the ballot to see whose team will become the new UNSA officials.

The elections which is taking place today is being carried out across all campus constituencies with 36 delegates taking part in the process. This is the second election held under the new University of Nairobi Student Association (UNSA) Constitution.
