East Coast Hiphop Vs. West Coast Hiphop

The battle between East coast and West coast hip-hop cultures has been in existence for years and years. There are a lot of arguments going on between East coast or West coast in terms of best hip-hop. But the question is “Is there an answer?”, most definitely no. But again why?. We definitely know that the basement of hip-hop lies among two great people who once lived on planet earth, I am talking about the late B.I.G Notorious aka Biggy and the late Tupac Shakur aka Makaveli.

Most interestingly, the two niggas were from two different regions, B.I.G from East coast and Shakur from West coast. To many people, this has been always the centre of argument whether West Coast or East Coast is the best hip-hop hub.  I thought that there is no need of selecting between Shakur or B.I.G, all I need to do is to appreciate them for bringing a new game, rap music, as a world mainstream music and commercialism of hip-hop music.

To put people into the light, the above argument does not mean that I am not taking a side between East Coast or West Coast. There are just a lot of artists and other things to look at. West Coast has the likes of Rass Kass, MC Eiht, The D.O.C and Boots Riley. While the East Coast has the likes of LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Lauryn Hill and Chuck D. All these artistes made a historical record at some point of their climax eras irrespective of the shits called East Coast and West Coast. But what do you think drives hip-hop industry? and by the way, we are living in a generation where hip-hop is the coolest thing! Believe me. Back to the question, “Beef” between artists is the key driver in the hip-hop industry. We can confirm this when B.I.G clashed with Shakur, when Nas clashed with Jay Z, when 50 Cent clashed with Jay Z and Kanye West.

Let’s get deeper with the lists, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Too $hort, Kendrick Lamar, Ice-T, Ice Cube, all from West Coast. While Jay Z, Nas, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli, MC Lyte and Q-Tip, all from the East Coast. This shows that hip-hop is somehow balanced between East and West sides. The only difference is that each year, different sides outshine the other and that keeps the hip-hop industry alive and fresher each time.
