Ethic dropped Tarimbo yesterday (Nov 1, 2019) has so far acquired a 200k views and trending number 1 as the time of the writing this article.
The song has received criticism from Kenyans being led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Ezekiel Mutua through a Facebook post expressing that the song promotes violence among women, something which should be discouraged.
The chorus of the song sung by Reckless are termed on Twitter by Black Zaburi as rapey
In the Facebook post, Mutua asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to apprehend members of the Ethic Entertainment band.
“I have spoken to Google to take down the damn crap called Tarimbo by Ethic Entertainment which advocates for rape of women. Promoting violence against women is criminal. The DCI should arrest the entire bunch of musicians called Ethic, under Article 33, for going beyond the prescribed delimitations on freedom of expression by advocating for violence against women.”
U.O.E.N.O. by Rocko ft. Rick Ross and Future
In a line in the song, Rick Ross raps, “Put molly all in her champagne/ She ain’t even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that/ She ain’t even know it.” A petition containing 72,000 signatures was presented to Reebok, demanding they drop Ross as a spokesman for the lyrics which appeared to condone date rape.
Ross apologised for the lyrics, claiming they were not about rape. He was dropped by Reebok on April 11, 2013. A Ross concert organized by the student association of Carleton University was cancelled.
Rocko later dropped the Rick Ross verse in order to have radio play. In the Black Hippy remix, Schoolboy Q raps: “Molly in her drink, but she asked me to and oh yeah I got this on cam”.
