The selected students, drawn from the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies and the School of Biological Sciences (BSc degree in Environmental Conservation and Natural Resources Management), come from needy backgrounds and have recorded excellent performance in their respective courses.
Speaking during the scholarship presentation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, Mitsubishi Corporation General Manager, Mr Ichiro Sugane, pledged to continue supporting bright and needy students from the University of Nairobi.
“At Mitsubishi, we are committed to supporting brilliant students,” he said. “We hope that the scholarships will contribute to the realisation of the students’ dreams and future endeavours.”
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Henry Mutoro, thanked Mitsubishi Corporation for the continuous support the company has extended to the University. The corporation has been supporting 14 students annually in the last decade.
The Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr John Orindi, requested the corporation to consider supporting other university activities such as research, innovation, provide coaching and mentorship to engineering students and lastly supporting students extra curriculum activities like sports.
