Russia to face Saudi Arabia in the opening match
Hosts Russia will today at six in the evening play Saudi Arabia, in the first match of the long awaited World Cup.
The competition kicks off today amidst several occurrences that took place, earlier this week.
Spain sacked their coach Julen Lopetagui after he agreed to join Real Madrid as their head coach, after World Cup.
The Spanish FA decided to sack him on the eve of the competition and appointed Fernando Hierro to take over.
There were stories of division among the players, with several Spanish players pleading with the FA not to sack Lopetagui. It is said that defender Sergio Ramos was most disappointed by the removal of Lopetagui.
The FA has however, said that they have spoken with the players and urged them to give their best to lift the Spanish flag high in Russia.
With the first match scheduled for today, we will wait to see who will take the day between Russia and Saudi Arabia.
