The fourth method for generating business ideas is the hobby-based method.
A hobby is a regular activity done for enjoyment, typically during one’s leisure time, not professionally and not for pay. Hobbies include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements. Participation in hobbies encourages acquiring substantial skills and knowledge in that area.
People have hobbies that occupy their free time. Some hobbies are recreational or entertaining while others have commercial value with potential for income generation.
Examine any hobby that you have and think of how you can convert it into an income spinner.
If you do not have a hobby, think of beginning one with a view to translating it into a source of income.
EXERCISE: Get Your Hands Dirty
With reference to your hobby or hobbies, state at least two kinds of businesses that you may start.
EXAMPLES: Inspiration
- Reading hobby. Based on this hobby, one can form a Reading Club where members pay subscription fees and meet to discuss the books they have read. Some children are slow readers, a factor that affects their academic performance. Begin children’s holiday classes for reading improvement.
- Adventure hobby. If you like adventuring to touristic attraction sites, begin an adult adventures group whose members pay subscription fees and meet other costs including your administrative fee. Over the school holidays, parents may be interested to send their children to organized adventure trips at a fee. One can start a holiday children’s adventure enterprise.
- Love for pets hobby. People love pets for one reason or another. If the pet is a cat, you may breed marketable cats for sale. The same idea can apply to a marketable breed of dogs.
