There was jubilation and contentment as Chairman elect, Clinton Osoro recorded a landslide victory in the Jomo Kenyatta University Students Association (JKUSA) student council held on February 26, 2019.
Osoro garnered 112 votes trouncing Hesbon Aboki, Edward Mutuma and Claire Wahome who had 40, 38 and 18 votes respectively. He will be deputized by Silvia Nyawira.
210 delegates took to the ballot to elect the new JKUSA student council who will be in office for one year in accordance with the University (Amendment) Act 2016 and the JKUSA Constitution. The council will be governed by a students’ council Chairperson and Vice-chairperson of opposite gender, Secretary General, Finance Secretary, Academic Affairs Secretary, Sports and Entertainment Secretary and Health, Catering and Accommodation Secretary.
The Secretary General position was a three horse race with Bruce Onduru Byron emerging victorious with 97 votes beating Amos Mongare Ariisi who had 64 votes and Victor Obusi Onyango garnering 49 votes.
Ismail Adan Abdulwahab won the hotly contested Finance Secretary position that attracted 7 candidates by 118 votes followed by Edwin Nabalia Wanyonyi 44 votes, Mike Sagana 23 votes, Zadock Rono Kipsang 15 votes, Michael Juma 5 votes, Moses Wanjiru Kinuthia 1 vote and Solomon Kedireg Krop 0 votes.
The new Academic Affairs Secretary is Odada Orinda who sailed through with 109 votes defeating Victor Kiprono Kemboi and Martin Kyuti Kolite who bagged 90 and 8 votes respectively.

Moses Gathungu Waweru who garnered 139 votes emerged tops capturing the post of Sports and Entertainment Secretary beating his only opponent, Dancun Otieno Odera who got 65 votes.
The position of Health, Catering and Accommodation Secretary was clinched by Naomi Wanjiru Nyambura who garnered 124 votes beating Loice Odunga Atieno who bagged 77 votes.
The students also put in office the JKUSA Congress which will be composed of 30 elected Schools and Halls Representatives. The Congress will play a watchdog role to the JKUSA Student Council. The new team will be sworn in on March 4, 2019, followed by a three-day leadership training programme.
