The University of Nairobi organized an annual prize giving day, where over 200 students were awarded cash awards, certificates, trophies and medals for their excellent academic achievements over the last three years. The ceremony was held in Taifa Hall, Main Campus on May 10, 2019.
Speaking during the event, University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi congratulated the students for their exemplary performance and urged them to come back for further studies promising to support them in their academic endeavours.

Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Trustee Fund gave out two gold medals to the best overall students in the whole university with the highest proficiency in both academic and extra-curricular activities. In the 2015/2016 academic year, Singh Amitoj won the gold medal and in the 2016/2017 academic year, Essajee Asya Abdulatif won the same award.
Prof. Mbithi noted that dreams don’t become a reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination and real hard work. “The mouth doesn’t eat if the feet don’t walk and if the hands don’t work. I congratulate you on your outstanding achievement. Ahead of you is the task of doing the utmost to keep the dream alive, “he said. The Vice-Chancellor took the opportunity to thank staff members who generously contributed towards the prize giving day. He urged more staff members, parent and stakeholders to join the list of awards sponsors. “Charity begins at home. I challenge more staff members to donate towards prize giving and sponsor more prizes”, he said.

Talking on mentorship, the Vice Chancellor thanked the staff members who have worked tirelessly with students to ensure exemplary performance over the period. He noted that students’ victory is solely their efforts plus the mentorship efforts of their lecturers who have been keen to nurture the passion, talent, ambition.
Speaking on behalf of Sponsors, Eng. Carrey Okwiri Rege, challenged more donors to support the initiative. “I became a donor in 2008. I realized that nobody was donating towards Civil Engineering and I decided to take up the challenge. I urge donors to increase their donations to reflect the status of the economy,” he said.
