After heated campaigns to seek the students approval, the list is already out for the qualified aspirants, the university of Nairobi on Thursday cleared contestants to vie for various positions, the selected candidates will be voted in on the 5th of April 2019, a date proposed by the university senate.
The elections will be conducted by an independent Electoral commission comprising of seven (7) members who will include; The chairman, three members of staff and three students as stipulated in part (IV) Article 13 of the University of Nairobi students association Constitution.
Among those cleared to vie for the chairperson position include; Samuel Ayoma, Ann Mvurya, and Maina Mwaura while Owiti owayo , Wakili Cosmas and Antony Manyara who is the current chairperson failed to get clearance.
According to the (UNSA) 2017 constitution, the students council shall consist of a chairperson, vice chairperson ( who shall be of the opposite gender with the chairperson) secretary general, treasurer and three other members to represent special interests of students.
The constitution also states that at least two thirds of electors in the Electoral collages shall participate in the election of the students council.
The election exercise which will take place across campus constituencies will be the second election held under the new University of Nairobi Student Association (UNSA) Constitution.
