Have you ever been arrested by the Kenyan Police? If you have not then you must know someone who has and I’m guessing the reasons were really flimsy?
If you have never encountered our Kenyan police, let me introduce you to some of those reasons.
- You look like a thug. Frankly, this alone makes me wonder, do thugs have a trademark look or something?
- Carrying a weapon. (At that time you only have your phone or a toothpick, from all the Chinese movies I have watched, anything can be a weapon.
- Noise-making (singing loudly on the road can warrant an arrest).
- You are rude to officers. But what if they were also rude to you, should you simply look on and not say a word?
- You tried to bribe an officer. Yes, this is a crime but meeting an officer who says no to bribe in Kenya, it is similar to Kenya experiencing a breakthrough in fighting corruption.
The worst part about our Judicial system is that a man who steals a chicken maybe arrested and sentenced to death, whereas a man who steals millions ends up paying bail from the same millions he stole and ends up been acquitted on the grounds of insufficient evidence, (so rolling my eyes right now).
