
Bravin Fundi was the main man on Sunday, captaining Moi West Campus in a thrilling soccer final. Fundi scored the winning penalty in the quarter finals, to ensure the West men beat Moi Main Campus 5-3 in a memorable derby. In the semi finals, Eric Kithua bagged a brace against Kisii University, flying “The Yellows” into the final.

Shem Chedoti was the first to find the net in the full-pitched final, sending his squad into a “sit-down” celebration. Shem converted the well curved shot from Steve into a fine header that left the Egerton goalkeeper meditating. The match went on a no-goal moment after that stunner, the first half ending with West Campus on the lead. The joy was however short lived, a similar header from Egerton’s Brian equalizing for the hosts.

Egerton who seemed to have garnered new energy pressed the yellow dressed men excellently, West’s goalkeeper making incredible saves. Failure to convert the chances into goals saw the match end in a draw, the centre referee overseeing the two teams into a penalty shootout. West’s Evans “Bush” scored the first penalty but his two teammates lost the next penalties. Egerton converted their first three penalties, before they surprisingly lost two consecutive penalties, thanks to West Campus’s goalie. It is the Egerton’s goalkeeper who won the match however, saving Jack’s shot to send the home crowd into a vuvuzela-filled celebration.

In other matches, Moi Main campus ladies finished second in their group, gathering five points an improvement from last year’s third spot. Victoria Wakoli scored the all-important goal in their do or die match, converting Olivia’s pass into a volley. The Marshallets succumbed into goalless draws in their first two matches against UoE and Egerton, before winning against West Campus. They will now seek to finish first in the upcoming second leg, to qualify for the East Africa games in Tanzania.

In basketball, Moi Main Campus ladies are the winners, after thrashing Moi School of medicine 23-12 in a tough and enthralling final. The black and red dressed Ladies dismantled Moi West Campus in the semis, having overcome Kabarak and University of Eldoret(UoE) as well. The Moi Main Campus men finished third after losing to Moi Kabarak in the semis, Eugene scoring excellently for the winners. They however beat UoE in the playoffs to get the third spot, “Churchill”,Scot andDwayne starring.
